Luis Rafael Vivanco began his classical guitar studies at the age of 11, in Peru. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees in music from the University of British Columbia and Roosevelt University in Chicago. His playing is influenced by the rhythmic and melodic wealth of Peruvian folk music, Argentinean tango and Spanish flamenco – forms he has studied in depth. He has recorded two albums, one of guitar and piano pieces and the other featuring tango music. He also plays the lute and baroque guitar and enjoys performing in ensemble with other musicians and dancers along with the classical guitar repertoire.
